Cross-Centered Worship Songs: “Let Your Kingdom Come!”

I have been responsible for leading corporate singing in the church for years.  I know how frustrating it can be to find songs that are worth singing.  Many of the newer songs never mention or even allude to the most important aspect of Christianity:  The message of The Cross!  To be sure, there are songs out there, but it takes time to find them.  I often sift through 40 songs, just to find one new song.   (Worship team members have affectionately, and some times derogatorily, nick-named me “The Lyric Police”.  Call me old school if you like, but If we are going to sing in church, I think the songs we sing to our Savior should be worthy of Him and His work on the cross!

This column, “Cross-Centered Worship Songs”, was started as a way to serve my many worship leading friends.  I hope to introduce  some of the lesser known songs out there that you may not have heard.   Today’s song, “Let Your Kingdom Come”, is an upbeat, guitar based, contemporary song that reminds the church what her mission is.  It is a prayer, set to music, for God to advance His cause on this earth.  Much of today’s “worship” music is “me” centered.  This song, calls us all to be more Gospel-Centered.  Let us know if you like or hate it!

Following the lyrics, I have included an Mp3 version of the song as well as a chord chart for the song.

Let Your Kingdom Come (Bob Kauflin)

Your glorious cause, O God, engages our hearts
May Jesus Christ be known wherever we are
We ask not for ourselves, but for Your renown
The cross has saved us so we pray
Your kingdom come

Chorus
Let Your kingdom come
Let Your will be done
So that everyone might know Your Name
Let Your song be heard everywhere on earth
Till Your sovereign work on earth is done
Let Your kingdom come

Verse 2
Give us Your strength, O God, and courage to speak
Perform Your wondrous deeds through those who are weak
Lord use us as You want, whatever the test
By grace we’ll preach Your gospel
Till our dying breath

  1. Hey Jim,

Are there any licensing issues using the songs you post here at my parish?

    Thanks,

    David

    • Hi David,

The neat thing about the Sovereign Grace Ministries songs is that you can use them free of charge. Of course, you have to buy the songs if you want to have your own copies, but at 99cents, they are pretty affordable.

  2. clarification from what Jim wrote. All sheet music, chord charts, etc. is free. The mp3’s are .99 each.

    • Thanks for the clarification. You have to buy the songs and that is a good way to support the SG worship music ministry. I think it is admirable that they put out the correct song charts, and lead charts for free. Very few “ministries” do that. They want you to buy their books. I definetly applaud SG for this service to the body of Christ.
