Not For Itching Ears!
Not For Itching Ears is a blog dedicated to discussing the serious issues that exist within the American Evangelical church. It is a place for like minded people to share their thoughts on a host of issues relating to this subject. Our opinion is that the church in America is in serious trouble and has lost its way. If you believe that, then this will be an excellent forum for you. Our goal is not to bash the church. Rather, the goal is to bring people together to encourage one another and talk about solutions…
We have included a statement of faith on the blog so you have a clear picture of what we believe. You can find this under, believe it or not, “What we believe.”
Now about the name of the blog. In 2 Timothy chapter 4, the Apostle Paul talks about a time when people will no longer want to hear the message of the Gospel. They will not put up with listening to it and will want nothing to do with it, so they will turn away from it. They will want instruction, though. Paul tells Timothy that they will surround themselves with a great number of teachers who will teach them “what their itching ears” want to hear. Paul’s admonition to Timothy was to not be one of the teachers they surrounded themselves with. In other words, Paul told Timothy: “A time is coming when people will not listen to the gospel. They will listen to other people teaching other things. But they won’t listen to the Gospel. So this is what you must do in that situation Timothy: you must continue to preach the gospel.” Even if they will not listen, Preach the Message of the Cross! For an exposition of this passage, listen to the message titled “Staying On Message” in our Audio Messages page.
Sadly, today’s church leadership, in its quest to be relevant, has taken on the role of “ear scratching.” The lost don’t want to hear the most important message they could ever hear: How to be reconciled to a holy God whom they have offended and stand guilty before. The greatest message ever given to man is considered “irrelevant.” They don’t want to hear this message, but they do want to know other things. This is the very thing Paul warned us about, and we have done the very thing we were told not to do!
Not For Itching Ears is basically a counter-culture concept. We will not be discussing ways of becoming better ear scratchers. Rather, we want to see the message of The Cross elevated back to is proper place as The message of the church.
Thanks for stopping by. Leave a comment or two, we would greatly appreciate it! Don’t forget to take the poll!
Following Him together,
Jim
